Nicholas Silici returns to gallery in excellent form!
+ gallery is proud to present a new body of work by Denver mainstay Nicholas Silici, who last presented a full body of work in 2002. Still extrapolating upon his studies and predilections associated with the square form, Nicholas Silici offers a stinging new element and dynamic shift that creates tension on an otherwise serene color plane. By breaking the template, creating negative space, and juxtaposing two opposing yet inter-related forms, Silici releases the orthodoxy of his original intentions, resulting in a refreshing new take on an ideology that fundamentally addresses the sociology between two distinct forms. "Click" exudes an honesty that lends itself to the continuous maturation of visual translation and what can now be argued as socio-expression. Integrating an innate sense of color usage in collaboration with a 'sub-surface,' of concrete, Silici summons a complex, textural beauty that defies conventional modes of abstract expression. It is upon the concrete and therein where Silici’s finishes his layered areas of color with a fine, polyurethane coat resulting in a luster that embellishes the clarity of the overall composition. The enlarged presence of his shimmering fields of color exist suspended between the geometric square shape, the observer’s retina, and the artist's innate sense of form and scale. His emblematic square forms create a circumscribed yet fluid order, keeping our attention intensely occupied in a dualism of structure and chromatic elaboration. Nicholas new exhibition "Click" begins tomorrow, Saturday the 9th and will be on view till May 14th. The gallery will host a reception for Nicholas on Thursday, April 14th from 6-8pm.
