First Clyfford Still lecture extremely informative and impactful for Denver

Last night was the first public lecture divulging a bit of history to explain the relevance and impact of the Clyfford Still Museum, the project spearheaded by Mayor John Hickenlooper that is now part of Denver's ever-growing infrastructure of internationally significant cultural projects. Dean Sobel, the Director of the Still project, gave a fluent and highly educational lecture on many aspects relating to Still's artwork and life, including how he influenced the New York School and rejected much of the art-world machine that developed as a result. This was fascinating stuff to learn, complete with slides that included works seen for the first time by the public. All in all, it's hard to imagine a greater honor bestowed upon the city, unless of course you consider the Logan gift mentioned last week! Perhaps the next step is to convince Damian Hirst to move his collection and practice to Denver, there's no doubt he is following in the shadow cast by Still in many ways. Don't miss the next lecture in the series, again presented at the Walnut Foundry on Monday, April 3rd. Mark your calendars now!
